COMMENTARY OF THE DAY
I AM WHO I AM
by Elinor Montgomery
June 1, 2007
And Moses asked the question of God, "Indeed, when I come to the
children of Israel and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has
sent me to you,' and they say to me, 'What is His name?' what shall
I say to them?" And God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And He said,
"Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to
you (Exodus 3:13-14).'"
This answer from God was both simple and complex at the same time.
Every man, woman and child can make one simple statement of truth
that cannot be altered or tampered with by the philosophies or
doctrines of man; no one can take this truth away. It is this: I am,
because I have the understanding and knowledge of my existence.
Other men may have their own understanding, but they do not have
mine, and when others are not in my presence or in contact with me,
I am not able to perceive through my senses whether or not they
still exist. Their existence loses its certainty, but as long as I
have understanding, my truth remains a certainty. I know I am,
because I know and understand I am, or that I exist. This truth
forces us to acknowledge God - "I am because I know "I AM", or
because I know God."
When God declared Who He was to Moses, His statement made it clear
that there is nothing man can do or say to change the name and
nature of God. He simply is and exists apart and independently of
His creation. At the same time, we exist because of Him.
Human beings are a part of His creation, that part which has the
breath of life breathed into it, giving man understanding and the
knowledge of who he is in Him by the breath of the Spirit within
him. Hence we are created in His image, which means we live and find
our existence by the breath or Spirit of Life within us, separate
and apart from the animal kingdom and the beasts of the fields,
which have no understanding at all.
It is only by the light that we see; we cannot see anything in
darkness. The light dispelled the darkness at creation, and there
was only day, the evening and the morning, both of the same day,
beginning with the evening. Light is basic for spiritual
understanding, which comes only with the breath of God, breathed
into the living being, but not into the living creature. When
referring to a living being or man we use the pronoun 'who'; when
referring to the living creature or beast we use the pronoun
'which'. There is a difference between the two of day and night, of
light and darkness and of understanding and no understanding.
God was relating a huge message to a spiritually dead people with
the words "I AM", stating the sure and basic truth of life. These
two words completely blast the word 'evolution' out of the equation.
I do not exist because of anything, which I can do to create myself
in the image of God. Nor is my humanness reached by the process of
evolving from a beast of no understanding, possessing some
miraculous ability to transform itself into a higher level of
existence.
Such ideas fall into the category of the 'Superman-type' of
thinking, which belongs in the child-like mind that believes in
fairy tales. As the tale goes, the animal, like Clark Kent, can be
seen for centuries and then hides itself away from view, only to
reappear, transformed into a much 'super being', no longer an
animal. The fable of evolution has accomplished what the grounded,
bi-speckled, mild-mannered reporter, Kent accomplished when he
disappeared momentarily, only to reappear in the form of a man with
a cape and the power to fly like a bird.
There is a difference, though, between evolution and the Superman
fable, for Clark Kent and Superman could not appear together, yet
the animal, today, still walks the earth with the man. Does this
fable of evolution not require more of our child-like imagination to
believe it, than is required to believe in Superman? Such is the
counterfeit message of Satan.
The only Superman, whom I know, is the Lord Jesus Christ, Who died a
mild-mannered Man, disappeared briefly, only to be resurrected as
the immortal Powerhouse, Who will be known forever as the I AM. The
prophecy of the Bible validates it, and history fulfills it as
declared by the historians who recorded it. He has the power to
restore us spiritually from our fall into sin, which made us
spiritual sons of the beast. He can take us from our captivity in
death back to life, by way of a rebirth with the breath of the
Spirit of life being breathed into us once again, transforming us
from sons of the beast to sons of God.
"I am, simply and unequivocally, because I am." This idea can be
enlarged upon to reach the conclusion that, "I am because I AM,
because God was first." It only remains to be stated that I am
because of God.
Moses was commissioned to speak the words, which God gave to him,
for the fledging young nation of Israel before he led its exodus
from the land of Egypt. It is time for these words to be spoken
again to the two nations of the West, which have lost sight of their
existence because of God,
the great I AM.
In the schoolrooms, our children are being bombarded with the
messages of Secular Humanism, most of which are lodged in absurdity.
It takes far too much faith to ever believe that human beings with
the breath of life breathed into them, giving man understanding,
could evolve from a creature of no understanding.
If Jesus is the Light, and the light is that which allows us to see,
then we can well understand why God began His creation with the
opening words, 'Let there be light.' His spoken Word brought all
things into being. God is the God of truth, so His creation sat on a
foundation of truth. If we want to continue to live in this world,
then it is time we feed our children the life-giving words of truth
so that they can use them to build a wall of defense against the
lies of Secular Humanism,
which will ensnare them.
What will it benefit our children if they gain the riches of a
materialistic society, achieving success by man's standards, as
opposed to the standards of God, yet, in the process, they lose the
light of truth and the understanding of who they are within God's
creation? "For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world,
and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his
soul
(Matthew 16:26)?"
Open your eyes, America, the eyes of understanding, and let us teach
the children the fundamental statement of truth - 'I am because I
AM.' If they understand this truth in their lives, then all else
will fall into place and false teachings will begin to fall away
like a house built of a full deck of cards lined up, end upon end.
When the first one falls, the rest all fall in line, within the
chain reaction that follows. It takes nothing more than that first
push at the point of weakness before one can see that a house built
without a firm foundation will not survive.
The house of Secular Humanism, the religious system upon which we
have allowed the devil to lay his foundation of lies in the
classrooms of this nation, will fall like the house of cards. It
will occur with the rapidity of a chain reaction, the moment we
place the whole teaching system back on the foundation of truth,
where it belongs. The basic truth, which we have been keeping from
the understanding of our children, is the truth that they only exist
because they are a creation of God and not because they have evolved
from a beast.
If we start with the simple words, 'I am because I AM', the truth of
all truths in which we find our being, the Egypt of this world will
have no choice but to let us go. Our witnessing to the light, or
lack of it, is a matter of life and death.
Men who hold up the Book of Truth in our faces, yet stand as
hypocrites on a foundation of religious Christianity, walk in
impurity, without the light in them. They will begin to fall away
from the witnesses of the true apostolic church, whom they will come
to hate and label as fundamentalists, as quickly as the house of
cards was flattened in the chain reaction.
Stand back and watch the exodus of the present-day spiritual
Israelites from the religious Egypt of this world, with their exodus
from religion into the truth becoming the spiritual reality of the
shadow from the past. It was with this prophetic message that Moses
was sent to Pharaoh as the designated voice for God, given the right
to speak these words for Him:
'Thus says the Lord: "Let My people go, that they may serve Me
(Exodus 8:1)."'
